Hey gorgeous people! So I haven't blogged in a really long time, and I hate making up excuses because really I should've blogged, but I do have a valid excuse this time-and this time only, and that was my vacation :).
It was nice to take a break for a while from all the electronics and video cameras, and just relax on the beach. My family and I travelled to Mexico on Saturday February the 19th, 2011, for our cousin's wedding. The ceremony was beautiful, outside on the beach, wind was blowing, waves crashing on the shore, it was just stunning. The reception was a ton of fun too! There's sooo much to do in Mexico, and we only stayed for a week, but we hardly scratched the surface of amazing possibilities and excursion opportunities. My parents went into town for the day to see the famous Chichen Itza, the Mayan temples out in the forest. It was a very long day, and hey man, I'm on vacation, I didn't feel like waking up at 6:30 to ride on a bus for 5 hours and look at temples. Honestly now though, I really wish I went! My parents took many pictures, and my dad even bought a permit so he could film the excursion and show you guys what it's all about. The video on Mexico isn't up yet, but it will be shortly, and I'll tell you all about the amazing adventures we had!
You'd be so surprised at how hospitable the people are! Always happy to greet you, and the breathtaking sights you would see when you woke up each morning in this beautiful country. We stayed at the Grand Palladium Colonial resort, which was a chain resort, linked to the Fiesta Hotel Group of Spain, so we were all inclusively permitted to travel to all the 4 different resorts in the chain, and use all the facilities at our leisure. While we stayed at the Colonial, some family stayed ta the other resorts such as the Riviera, Kantenah, and my favourite the White Sands. There were little golf carts that drove people around to different resorts, and everything was free.... Well, after you paid the plane tickets, the transportation from Cancun, the Hotel.....zZz..OH sorry, anyways, it was such a blast! The first few days we were just settling in, but it was so easy to feel at ease in such a home-like environment. The food was fantastic, and like I told my friends, it's a compromise between civilization and tropical amazing-ness!! It's a place where you can talk to the security guards and have a laugh once in a while, but then be able to grab a Pina Colada and chill by the pool for hours on end, without anyone ever bothering you.
In my opinion, I really can't stand the rumours about Mexico. To be honest, I was skeptical about going to Mexico because of all the bad hype about the place, but our tour guide told us that 90% of the Mexican population is employed BECAUSE of tourism throughout the country! Can you believe it!? Tourists are what keep them in business! So think about it for a second or two, if we keep them employed and put food on their tables, then would they ever want to harm us in anyway? No, not at all! We went into Playa Del Carmen for shopping one day and the people are the sweetest ever, sure they'll come up to you and say, "I have the best prices anywhere, 'Cheapo-Phillipo'", but they wouldn't come and attack you and randomly arrest you like the media seems to claim. Sure there are some parts in Mexico that are not exactly tourist friendly, but doesn't every country have problems? I think so, and if you are travelling to Mexico, you really don't have nothing to worry about. If you feel like you're ever taking unsafe risks, then just stay on the resort during your vacation and absolutely nothing can happen to you.
For us, we had a great time feeding the crazy lemur animals, taking pictures by the pool, and admiring the beautiful sun rise and sun set glimmering along the ocean each day. It was an unforgettable experience-that I'm sure of, and I wouldn't ever want to change that. Mexico, you're the best tourist destination by far, and I can't wait to come back and see you again.
xoxo
